The story of Helix begins with our pioneering ancestors - John and Susan Tucker - who traveled the Oregon Trail from Colorado, settling in the Weston and Helix region of Northeastern Oregon in 1883. Five successive generations of Tucker family members expanded our agricultural activities into the Walla Walla and Snake River regions of Southeastern Washington, and today, we continue to expand our notion of what farming and agriculture can be in Washington and beyond.
After several years producing wines under the REININGER label, we launched our Helix brand in 2004, with a goal of exploring the diverse and unbounded Columbia Valley. In essence, to allow winemaker Chuck Reininger to expand our winemaking reach, and to see and learn for ourselves what Columbia Valley vineyards are capable of producing. Now in our second decade, we believe the wines further express the distinctive flavors of each vineyard. We look for growers who share a strong commitment to quality, are passionate stewards of the land and who have a willingness to work closely with us to produce fruit that strongly reflects our style. Because our first label, REININGER (est. 1997), is comprised from fruit grown solely in Walla Walla Valley, Helix allows us to extend our geographical reach and produce wines that are stylistically different from REININGER. With access to the vast and varied Columbia Valley region, Helix is an exploration of Washington State and an opportunity to introduce a new group of wine enthusiasts to what Washington has to offer. After 130 plus years of our family livelihood intertwined with this land, we can think of no better way to honor the land and our history.
